Principal's Message

  • The Rachel Carson Intermediate School, I.S. 237 strives to meet the diverse needs of all members of our school community. Classes are organized into grade level Houses or teams, affording youngsters the attention and comfort of a small learning environment. We offer a strong academic program which includes Special Progress classes on each grade level. Eighth grade SP students take Regents exams in Integrated Algebra, Earth Science and Living Environment, as well as the Spanish Proficiency exam and receive high school Regents credits accordingly. We boast a nearly 100% passing rate on all Regents exams. Many of our students go on to attend specialized high schools including Stuyvesant, Bronx Science and Brooklyn Tech. Our English Language Learners (ELLs) receive extensive supports services both during the school day and in after-school programs. Our Special Education Department provides a full range of academic and support services for all special needs youngsters.
